Session 1: Research Seminar Presentation Title: Addressing Endogeneity in Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). 17:00 - 18:00 h.

Abstract: Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) has become a key research method. Users of PLS-SEM have, however, largely overlooked the issue of endogeneity, which has become an integral component of regression analysis applications. This lack of attention is surprising, given that the PLS-SEM method is grounded in regression analysis for which numerous approaches for handling endogeneity have been proposed. To identify and treat endogeneity, and to create awareness of how to deal with this issue, this presentation introduces a systematic procedure that translates control variables, instrumental variables, and Gaussian copulas into a PLS-SEM framework. The procedure guides researchers on how to effectively address endogeneity concerns in their PLS-SEM analyses.

Session 2: SmartPLS Software Presentation Title: Recent Advances of Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) Using SmartPLS 3. 18:30 - 20:30 h.

Abstract: This software presentation addresses some foundations and advanced topics of the SmartPLS 3 software to support researchers when conducting their partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis. The presentation will briefly address how to obtain some basic PLS-SEM results including consistent PLS-SEM and fit criteria (if really needed?!?). A key topic of the presentation, however, is the predictive model assessment and the predictive model selection. With regards to the more advanced features topics such as hierarchical component models, mediation, and moderation will be shortly addressed. A key requirement for the validity of PLS-SEM results is the assessment of unobserved heterogeneity. SmartPLS 3 offers different options to effectively address this critical issue. Finally, if time allows, the presentation will shortly show how PLS-SEM can employ data obtained from discrete choice experiments (DCE).

Christian Ringle is a Professor of Management and the Director of the Institute of Human Resource Management and Organizations (HRMO) in the Department of Management Sciences and Technology at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), Germany, and an Adjunct Professor of the Waikato Management School, New Zealand. He holds a PhD from the University of Hamburg, Faculty of Business and Economics. Amongst other research stay and appointments, Ringle has been a visiting researcher at the Georgia State University and the Osaka City University and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Sydney and the University of Newcastle in Australia. His research addresses strategic management, organizations, marketing, human resource management, and quantitative methods for business and market research. His research in these fields has been published in journals such as Annals of Tourism Research, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Information Systems Research, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Leisure Research, Journal of Service Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Long Range Planning and MIS Quarterly. He is a cofounder of SmartPLS, a statistical software tool with a graphical user interface for partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and partial least squares path modeling. Ringle regularly teaches doctoral seminars on multivariate statistics, especially the PLS-SEM method, and the use of the statistical software such as SmartPLS.

Author Impact Prof. Ringle's research has been cited more than 36.000 times.
