Resumen del proyecto:

The present project focuses on the identification and characterisation of the main anatomic-functional areas in the telencephalon of the teleost fish. This study will be performed with a comparative and multidisciplinary perspective, employing a variety of complementary functional, morphological and behavioural techniques. This project is a continuation of previous ones, in which were studied the participation of different teleost fish brain areas in the mechanisms of perception and action in space, and in learning and memory and cognitive processes.

The specific objectives of this project are: a) to identify and characterise the motor and sensory areas in the telencephalic pallium of the teleost fish; b) to identify and characterise the areas in the telencephalic pallium involved in cognitive and emotional processes and learning and memory, in particular, the areas implicated in processes of associative learning, classical conditioning, gustatory aversive conditioning, spatial and relational learning and memory, and emotional learning.

The final object of this project is to identify the pattern of organisation of the teleost fish telencephalic pallium, and its participation in sensory, motor, learning and memory and cognitive processes. The description of this pattern might present a high comparative value for determining the basic pattern of organisation of the telencephalic pallium in vertebrates and its phylogenetic evolution.
